Team Geo is getting ready for our annual “Fall Training Retreat” for 2013! The picture above is our gang from the 2012 retreat. Our offices will be closed on Friday, October 4, for the event. We’ll be trekking up to a large cabin on Carter’s Lake near Ellijay, GA, for a great blend of training, fellowship, games, and food. We’ll be back open for business Monday, October 7.
Tobesofkee Creek – Forsyth Reservoir
John Moeller and Rob Tharpe had a busy week last week surveying a 117 acre reservoir down in Monroe County, GA. Check out this setup on an island in the middle of the upper reaches of the reservoir. According to Rob, this particular island is inhabited by three rather large wasp nests and few other creatures. Needless to say, he was stepping carefully out there!
Our client, Scnhabel Engineering, will utilize the information on our survey to calculate the capacity of the reservoir.
Bibb-Monroe County Line Dispute Heads to GA Supreme Court
The centuries-old dispute between Bibb and Monroe counties is heading to the GA Supreme Court.
GeoSurvey hasn’t been involved in this case, but we’ve certainly been watching it closely. This case truly brings to light the important role of land surveyors in our society. Here are few links about the dispute if you’d like to dig in and learn more…

Water Water Everywhere!
GeoSurvey is working with one of our clients, AEC Engineering, Inc., and The Chattahoochee Nature Center to reconfigure and rehabilitate the wooden nature walks at the center. We are providing a survey base-map for the engineering design of the improvements. We’ve been trying to get this field work finished for over a month!
As all of our local friends know, this has been one of the wettest summers ever here in GA. The water just won’t go down low enough for us to work, so sometimes we just have to “jump right in” and make it happen.
Thanks to Ronald Watson and Matt Erwin for taking one for the team and getting this survey completed so the Nature Center can get their boardwalks repaired and reconfigured to better serve the public…

Norman the Scooter Dog Sets New Guinness World Record!
Here’s an important update – Norman the Scooter Dog set a new world record on Friday, July 12, 2013 by riding his scooter 30 meters in a time of 20.75 seconds. He bested the old world record by almost 9 seconds!
GeoSurvey has been honored to be a part of this event by certifying the length of the track and serving as one of the time-keepers.
A crowd of almost 100 local citizens and lots of media showed up for the event. Norman and his owner, Karen Cobb, are doing all this to benefit an organization known as “Road Trip Home Animal Rescue”.
See Karen Cash and Trent Turk interviewed by the Associated Press about the event..
ABC News recorded the event from a balcony in the gym – great view of the run…
Good Morning Atlanta from Fox5 News here in Atlanta covered the event live … Go, Norman, Go!!
Channel 2, WSB, also has a great video of the race here..
We’ve posted a photo album of the event at our FB page here..
GeoSurvey to Measure Track for Norman the “Scooter Dog”
GeoSurvey has been asked to assist a local dog owner, Karen Cobb, and her dog named “Norman” with setting a new Guinness World Record. Norman, a three year old French sheep dog, has a special talent – he rides scooters and bicycles! He does this all for a good cause too, to assist and raise money for “Road Trip Home”, a group that rescues animals from high-kill shelters and relocates them to no-kill shelters.
Guinness became aware of Norman’s special talents, and contacted Karen Cobb to see if she would be interested in attempting to set a new world record for the fastest dog in the world to drive a scooter a distance of 30 meters. Karen seized the opportunity and has reached out to the community to assist her with this effort.
GeoSurvey is honored to assist Karen and Norman by donating our time for this event. We will be measuring and certifying the 30 meter track and providing documentation to Guinness per their guidelines. The world record attempt for the fastest dog to ride a scooter will be Friday morning, July 12th, on the basketball courts at the All-Tournament sports complex on Canton Road in Marietta, GA. We will be sure to post a follow-up article after Friday’s event with photos, results, and maybe even a video!

If you are installing a sign at your place of business in Cobb County or other local counties or cities, you will likely be requested for a current survey depicting the location of your sign on your property. We can assist you with this process!
